Stressed lately? Life moving too quickly? Finding it challenging to connect to your peaceful, deeper self? Maybe one day with us in a boat on the river is all you need to get back into sync with yourself. You work hard. You deserve it.

Picture this: floating down a peaceful stretch of river through a gorge that seeps with natural hot springs, an experienced boatman at the oars, watching for families of river otters and the solitary bald eagle, landing on a secluded beach where a table is set, dinner is almost ready, and a massage therapist waits for you to climb onto a massage chair to work the tension out of your neck and shoulders. Dinner is gourmet, consisting of organic produce, naturally raised meats, wild salmon, and fine wines. Music accompanies the meal, lively but unobtrusive songs by us, Cool Waters, on guitar and mandolin. This is not intended to be an exciting whitewater experience, nor are you likely to get very wet. This is R&R at it’s best. Who needs a stress management course when a river is just an hour away from Boise?

A few years ago we took a vice-president from Boise Cascade Corporation and his lovely wife on a float excursion down the south fork of the Payette River. Though there were a few small rapids, this section of the river was not particularly wild. It wound through a beautiful gorge, then meandered leisurely out across a wide green valley bordered with lush green forests. Though civilization was near, we seemed far enough away. Stopping for a couple of hours near late afternoon on a shady sand bar, we sampled cheese and sipped a fine wine. We prepared for them a simple yet elegant fare of salmon filet, rice pilaf, steamed broccoli and a fresh green salad. Before continuing down river we enjoyed a delicious dessert prepared in a dutch oven while we entertained with guitar music. It was a wonderful and satisfying way to spend a summer day. We remember well their comments at the end. They had no idea such a peaceful and serene place existed only an hour from Boise. How fortunate we are to have such a beautiful yet secret resource to enjoy.
